The ongoing economic downturn has been difficult across the country. Florida has been especially hard hit, however, with many vacation and second homes in foreclosure due to the mortgage crisis and vacations and travel slowing down as spending is cut by families across the country.
In 2008, there were 2.4 million Floridians living in poverty, with more than 2.5 million on food stamps. The state is in need of economic recovery and development, and now it is taking steps towards turning the economy around through workforce development.
One particular workforce board, Workforce Connection, is implementing training services for individual career seekers in Citrus, Levy and Marion Counties of Florida. They’re also offering employment services to local businesses in the three- county region.
In an effort to help prepare employees for today’s job marketplace and in the job search and interviewing process, Workforce Connection has begun working with Monster. Together, Monster and Workforce Connection are offering multiple Power Seeker Workshops and employment events targeted at helping to create a high-performance workforce and get job seekers into positions where they can use their specific skills and abilities.
The Power Seeker Workshops are just one small part of a larger plan to create a “talent marketplace” in Citrus, Levy and Marion Counties.
The video below shows how Power Seeker Workshops are helping seekers hone their job hunting skills and abilities, as well as learn new skills such as networking via social media and online networks.
