In today’s Washington Post, the Federal Eye includes a Q&A with Max Stier, president of the Partnership for Public Service, to discuss public service as part of Public Service Recognition Week.
Stier says that there are three main reasons that it’s hard for people to find government jobs, despite the fact that there are thousands available:
- Talented people in the job market don’t know about the available jobs;
- The hiring process; and
- Once people are in government, we need to treat people in a way that makes them want to stay and grow.
Stier says that there is a real commitment by the Office of Management and Budget and the Office of Personnel Management around finding talented workers. The question still remains – how will your agency ensure that the most talented workers in today’s job market are not hired more quickly into the private sector?
Putting a robust recruitment process in place that will not only solve an agency’s need to get the word out about open positions, but also will help shorten time to hire should be a priority for every government agency.
Monster works closely with federal customers to help in these areas, and we recently discussed innovative ways to extend your agency’s reach.
What is your agency doing to attract and retain top talent?
