Federal Hiring Efforts to Continue

Posted by: Erica Pierson

On Thursday, January 28, 2010, in the Washington Post article, “Officials plan to expand federal hiring despite spending freeze,” officials say federal employment is expected to continue to rise. Although President Obama proposed a federal spending freeze that may impact some federal agencies, the State Department, DHS, DoD and Veterans Affairs will be exempt.

In the article, Max Stier, president and chief executive of the Partnership for Public Service, pointed out, “It would be a mistake to ignore the increased role government has to play in times of trouble,” he said. “Federal employees are called to do more with greater impact when times are challenging.”

We know that any budget shortfalls will affect how federal job openings are managed, however, with over 273,000 new employees to hire by 2012, federal agencies are in no position to lose sight of their hiring priorities.

At Monster, our work with federal agencies reveals that federal agencies are finding ways to fill critical positions and improve their end-to-end hiring processes. This is why we remain optimistic about how the federal government is making better strides to become the employer of choice.
